My approach to Weddings Ceremonies is both professional and easy going. Drawing on my experience as a writer, I will take the time to write a very personal ceremony for both of you. I'll tailor your wedding to match your personalities, your experiences and your individualities!
My priority is to make you feel completely comfortable with the process & be confident in my abilities to ensure that your special day is not only a memorable event for you "The couple in love" but for your family and guests.
I shall also ensure that all the legalities and paperwork are taken care of.
I'm open minded, let's just get creative and see what happens.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. How much notice is required to get married?
A. One month. For example if you wish to marry on the 7th November, you must lodge your Notice of Intended Marriage with me no later than the 7th October and no more than 18 months prior to your ceremony. A shortening of time if required can be requested through the courts which may or may not be granted.
Q. What documents do we need?
You will need your original Full Birth Certificates or current Australian passport (or overseas passports if born overseas) for evidence of age & place of your birth.
If an overseas Birth Certificate is used, it must be in English or a NAATI accredited translation must be provided as well as the original Birth Certificate.
Evidence of how any previous marriage/s ended (Certificate of Divorce or Death Certificate) if applicable.
Photo ID with signature – current Driver’s License, Working With Children card, LHRW or another government issued ID.
Q. Do we need to have witnesses?
A. Yes, you need to have 2 witnesses who are over the age of 18 in order to solemnise your marriage. They can be the same sex & can be a relative, or a friend.
Q. How old do I need to be to get married?
A. In Australia, you must be over the age of 18 to be married. There is an exception in limited circumstances where there is one party who is between 16 and 18 years old & wishes to marry a person over 18. In this instance, the underage person must have the permission of a Judge or Magistrate as well as parental consent.
Q. What name does the bride sign on the day of the Wedding?
A. The bride signs with her maiden name on all documentation. There may be some exceptions.
Q. When & where can we be married?
A. Anywhere in Australia, at a time & place negotiated with me & with permission from any relevant authorities, if necessary. In a park, at the beach, Vineyard, the choice is yours!
Q. How long does the ceremony take?
A. The ceremony can be as short or as long as you both wish, depending on what you want to include on your day. How many people you wish to participate & whether you wish to include any sub-ceremony's such as a Sand Blending, Ring Warming, Ring Blessings, Unity Candle Ceremony, The Argument Box etc.
Q. Can others take part in the ceremony?
A. Yes of course they can! Friends, children, even pets (if the Venue allows).
Q. Can we write our own vows?
A. Yes you can? What is not to be loved by two people writing their own special words from their hearts. If you are having trouble, I have sample vows – (as well as searching on Google) of course! Or allow me to write vows specifically for you, capturing your personalities.
Q. Should we have a rehearsal?
A. Yes, you can if you so wish. Unless you're having an elopement style ceremony. Rehearsals allow for a smooth running on the day. Everyone knowing in advance where to stand, what's expected of them etc. The choice once again however is yours.
Q. Should we invite the celebrant to the reception?
A. Once again your decision, It is not mandatory for the Celebrant to be invited to your Reception and I will not be offended if you do not ask me. My role is to conduct the Service for you, ensuring your day is what you want, then I slip away, leaving you to enjoy your Reception surrounded by your loved ones.
Q. When should we book our celebrant?
A. Peak wedding times are between September to May and they are often booked well in advance, so it is wise to book early. Obviously the winter months aren't quite as busy, but it's best to be prepared!
Q. What are your fees?
A. My fees are determined once we have our initial meeting & we are happy & comfortable with one another. This is so important! There are many parts to your special day so I will be able to give you a fee, after we have our first meeting (and possibly an estimate prior).
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Email or call me for an informal chat about your ceremony & also to check my availability for your big day.
Next we have a 'Meet & Greet'. A meeting for an obligation-free chat about you & the ceremony you're looking for, plus what I can offer you. This is our 'getting to know each other time'.
If you choose me as your celebrant, we will then arrange to meet at my home, or your home, or somewhere of your choosing that's convenient, to complete the legal paperwork, start preparations for your ceremony & pay a booking fee.
You then go home and decide what type of ceremony you are after, then forward back to me within the specified time frame, so we can get the missing pieces of the jigsaw into place.
Based on the information you provide me, I will then draft a ceremony & an outline of the day & send it through for you to look over. Remember you will have unlimited email & phone access to me, as well as the option of another meeting, so we get everything organised & there are no surprises on the day!
We will meet one more time (more if required) for a rehearsal of your ceremony, (if desired) preferably at the ceremony venue, approximately one - two weeks before your Wedding Day. Here you will also sign another legal document, (Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage). Any last minute details or concerns can be nutted out on this day.
